The home was designed and constructed on spec, out of our clients desire to bring a bit of change to the housing market in the Valley. With ever-increasing financial and bureaucratic hurdles, more homeowners are opting to purchase spec homes than to design custom homes. In Studio City, charming older home were routinely demolished to construct generic and repetitive homes. It was our client’s desire to try to create a new home that would appeal both to the demands of modern practical living, while also feeling at home in the neighborhood.

The home retained a few key portions of the existing home, such as the front living room and porch, but the home has been largely redesigned and reimagined from scratch. The home was expanded by 2000 square feet, allowing the home to grow to a full 4 bedrooms, with multiple living spaces.

To finish the home, we used a variety of color, texture, and pattern to give a bit of soul to the home. Wallpapers and bright splashes of color, are paired with more classic patterns and materials, creating a space that feels both fresh yet familiar. The design melds our client’s English heritage to the climate and lifestyle of Southern California, in essence creating a new home with an old soul.
